Carnival
The Carnival is the merriest time of the year. Its origins go back to the pre-Christian era and it belongs among the customs connected with the transition of winter to spring.
The Carnival, starting at Epiphany and ending on Ash Wednesday, comes before Lent.
The carnival reaches its peak in the last week before Lent when masked groups go singing round the village performing various tricks.
During the Carnival in Hiadeľ, members of the Volunteer fire department and volunteers from the village form a group of people dressed in various masks and accompanied by the accordion player, they sing round the village. Residents may make a financial contribution of any amount to the groups to support the Voluntary fire service in Hiadeľ. In the evening there is always a disco for the whole community.
